Yeah Central London is very expensive (your friend must be loaded, does she need any new friends

). London is divided into zones and it gets a lot cheaper when you get out to Zone 2, 3 and so on. I live in Zone 2 and it's not too bad. I share a 1 bedroom flat with my girlfriend and we're paying around £400 a month each. It's quite big and we have a garden so I'm happy with it. The wages here generally equals the prices as well so it's not so bad really. But yeah for an American it would be extremely expensive.
@ spoongraphics: Yeah I always wanted to go to NYC as well. Now would be a good time considering the exchange rate. Almost 2 dollars for a pound. You should definitely go to The Tate Modern in February. Best art gallery I've been to so far. Greenwich Village is also worth a visit, go to the park and up to the top of the hill where the GMT time line is. You have an amazing view of Canary Wharf and the whole of London there.
