I've seen several of the high-quality, well-designed blogs that members of this forum have created, and I'm wondering: What goes into their creation?

I've done the pre-packaged blog (blogspot.com, eg.) and that's just fine, but I'm looking to create one that's more closely linked (url, appearance, etc.) with my redesigned website-to-be.

How do you guys (and girls) do it? Is it just html with a ton of back-end work? Is there a format you work from (like wordpress, or something) that you just customize to your own tastes?

Any insights are much appreciated!
