but seriously, there's some DEEP pitfalls one can fall into while creating digital art by the fad or trend.
trends are not necessarily worn and cliché, but they are once they get overused. a trend is just something popular at the time, and lord knows Web2.0 is jumping head first into the 'overused' category.
This could serve as a good place to list what NOT to do when designing, especially logos and website headers.
-drop shadow cannot 'make' a logo. it should be healthy without one
-gloss can make a design look fresh and new. but beware it doesn't look like every other glossy logo. your logo's originality and creativity conveys that of your blog's/company's/etc.
-diagonal lines are cool, but take notice while you browse how often they're used
-it's much harder to think about what not to do when you create art, but run your logo through the ringer. strip it down, build it up, twist and contort it. does it stand the test? then it's a good logo. does it look like crap if printed, photocopied, then faxed? (it probably will, but) try and figure out WHY.
-your logo and business name is your professional style and personality. if you Spel Ur Biz Name Kewl, you may detract clients.
add to this list! make it a resource for us all, and help me play down the snarky first post of this thread....
