A manual Pentax K1000, a broken Sony Cybershot 4mp and a Canon EOS 1D mark II with no lens

I am of the belief that it's not the camera that makes you a good photographer, having an artists eye, knowing the camera you have and how to utilize it does.

All my travel photos are taken on a 200£ Sony Cybershot 4mp and they are my best and favorite photos.

Bruce Percy shares some thoughts on the subject here and I completely agree with him: http://www.thelightandtheland.com/pa.../thoughts.html

But really it depends on what type of photography you're into. If you do macro, get a good macro lens. For travel photography I'd recommend a small cheap compact camera as it's not as flashy and you can get closer to people cause it's not as intimidating as a massive camera with a 500mm lens. For fashion etc, it's probably an advantage to have a camera that can take higher resolution photos.
