i designed a shirt for my band a few years ago with the coolest concept i found from a psycho-acoustic book. it was a 3-D representation of sound with different instruments in their place in this X-Y-Z axis thing. The band name was at the bottom. MORAL: my concept overtook the overall design way too much and the message was sacrificed.
you've done that with this poster. while i can tell you've thought about the concept a lot, i agree: your execution sacrificed any immediate legibility or comprehension on your audience. looking at it longer, I can now see what 12, 27, 9, 17 refer to, and i can now make out the date and time of the show, but in my opinion it takes way too long to extract any meaning from it. And a show poster may only get a second of someone's eyes/attention. you want it to either convey your message in that amount of time, or be so magnetic that they must return their eys/attention back to it.
hope you take this critically, cuz i think you have talent. but this one just isn't striking me.
