Default Critiques for Design Class!

Good Morning,

I am new to this forum but I would really appreciate it if someone could give me a few critiques on my work. It is for a design class at school and we have to create a symbol as visual communication but there are 4 steps and I am stumped on the third step. The description is:

Typographic Solution
Here, you will rely on the actual letters of your chosen word to create a verbal symbol. A verbal symbol is a word representing an object or concept. Explore what happens when you manipulated certain parts of your letterforms to create visual illusions otherwise not available if one just merely typed the word. Investigate upper and lowercase, stacking and removing letterforms, combining characters, removing parts, adding parts, negative and positive space, implied edge, etc. Remain controlled in your manipulation of your letterforms. Do not fall into the trap of drawing "pictures" with your letterforms. Avoid hokey/contrivedd solutions at all costs. Your verbal symbol does not have to visually look like a "koala" as much as it need to feel like one.

We had to choose an animal for this project and I chose a koala. I have attached the the typefaces and also a few examples that I have been working with. If anyone can offer any kind of input it would be great appreciated!
