Its the exact same at my college.
But the reason behind it is because, your not trying to make something pretty. Your learning processes and experimenting.
And teachers tend to group all mac stuff as one process, so even though you will be exploring deeper into photoshop, its just like playing with a set of shading pencils.
So you need to delve into paint, inks, wax, print, pencils and maybe even 3D.
That is whats mine was like last year, but on my foundation year, my teacher is all about doing development, which im really bad at, and hence why im not doing so well.
