hi hailey,
i get where you're trying to go.
when i look at letterforms attempting to visualize something, or at least manipulating the characters, i look closely at the forms and their patterns.
here's a quick idea: the defining characteristics of a koala's face are its eyes and unique nose. hopefully this doesn't violate the "don't draw pictures with your letters" but what if you take the a-l-a and turn those into eye-nose-eye? be sure to maintain the qualities of the letter, and push abstract. that might benefit you.

I tried using the a-l-a for the eye nose eye but that is not what she was looking for. I really liked how that one turned out but unfortunately it doesn't fit the criteria for the assignment. Thanks for the advice though! Greatly appreciated!
