Default Designing for the coders

Does anyone else have some experiences with designing web templates or themes for the Drupal CMS? I've been using this system for quite a while, and I remember my first attempts at theming were tedious but once I got the hang of it things went pretty well.
The problem I think is that Drupal is made by programmers for programmers, and most of the time they know little about designing. I should know, I graduated as one

Or can you guys recommend other CMS's outthere that are actually better or more user friendly than Drupal? What CMS do you use, if any? Or do you rely to your own coding skills (again, if any)?
