No, by all means stay clear of all trends such as glowing multicloured swirrling lines. Sorry, that was mean, and just to prove a point really. I think it's 100 per cent off topic to just sit here and say "don't follow trends". EVERY SINGLE ONE on this forum drags inspiration from a trend in design, everyone gets inspired by others and the currents of the design world. Ask any professional what you should do to be a successful designer, one of the many things he will say is "pay attention to design trends". He wont say "FOLLOW designtrends", but be aware of them, stay updated on what other designers are doing (if you weren't interested you probably wouldn't even be here). It's all about knowing the trends and using them to your advantage, not following them. It's like beeing determined to start a new period of litterature whilest staying perfectly ignorant to all previous periods.

And OF COURSE, ardcor is right, don't be sheep, don't belive that photshop tutorials are the instant kewl, but it's more dangerous to stay out of the game than in the game.
