Slightly outdated topic/posts, but I wanted to add...

While nothing is wrong with a warm welcome, I feel as a portfolio cover, it's important to represent who you are as a graphic designer with your portfolio cover. It's like packaging for your own brand, and you don't want to miscommunicate to visitors with your take of pastel and prettiness, that that's what you're all about.

It's the same concept I've learned with film, you don't want a film poster or cover to look comedic if the film is actually a serious drama. Viewers will be annoyed and feel tricked when they get past the cover and find it's not at all what they expected. So if you're really a hardcore graffiti type, show that from the get-go. Otherwise you might lose out of possible clients who may not check out more of your work because they've written you off as someone who does more light (in color and tone) work, and they're looking for hardcore, or someone who's looking for that sort of pastel bliss, will be a slight bit disappointed to find that your work is actually more hardcore.

That's just my opinion though, I'm not expert, and the above might not hold true for everyone but, just thought I'd share my 2 cents.

And because I just realized I forgot to mention the actual graphic here... I do really like it! The 3D is cool, and because designing 3D graphics is something a lot of designers can't/don't do, it shows off a special skill that you have over many other designers and 3D always looks bold, modern, and impressive I think!
