Helvetica Neue is pretty much as good as it gets, though I'm very partial to DIN.
As for this Arial vs Helvetica debate - there really isn't any debate to be had. Arial, as a typeface, is appallingly executed, with many mistakes. I never use it myself, and hate to see it used. To be honest, any font associated with Microsoft sucks, aside from Verdana, but then that is only good on screen and should never be used in print.
For a good example of how badly Arial is put together, compare Arial rounded to VAG rounded and see how bad it looks!
