Default Adobe Certifications--benefits?

Hi, I introduced myself over in the Introduction Forum, so a few of you know that I am just getting myself started in the graphic design world. I have degrees, but none of them are in graphic design and my plan to is become a self-taught graphic designer.

A few questions:

Are any of you familiar with the Adobe Certifications in Photoshop, Dreamweaver, etc.? Do any of you have one or more of these certifications? If so, has the certification enhanced your marketability both as a freelancer or employed designer? Thanks!

I don't know many people who have them, but i would say it couldn't hurt. I would say they are good to have if you did not go to school for design, but if you got your degree in design at a 4 year school you prob would not need them.

Joining organizations also is good for your career and for your resume.

I am an adobe certified print expert, but esentially it doesn't mean much. And the thing with the 4 year degree that doesn't mean much either actually.. not in this industry the only way to get a good job is to show a really strong portfolio and comprehension of skill and what's going on in the field. But the adobe cert always looks good, it just sucks cause they keep releasing versions so quick.

Thanks for your response cbowman, so the certification hasn't really helped you get work both in and outside the Adobe network? Their website led me to believe having the cert would grant me access to this wonderful adobe network.
