I consider myself a "web designer" but to be truthful I have no clue how to do any coding.
Are there any Wordpress designers out there that would like to offer their experiences and give some general tips and tricks they have learned that helped them to get started coding wordpress themes? |

I also have little to no experience in coding my designs. Usually I just hire a freelancer to do the job. You may be able to pay one of them to teach you......

Hey WPCandy - I don't know your name, but I'm Brian.
Basically, I can design whatever I want in photoshop, but for example elitebydesign.com I had to get coded by another person. I just don't know where to start. I've looked in various "wordpress" books but they basically just tell you how to modify the default wordpress theme. How do I even start the educational portion of taking my own design in Photoshop and making it a usable wordpress theme? Any help is appreciated. |

Hey Brian, my name is Michael but you can call me Mike for short.
Anyways, do you know CSS/XHTML? That's basically the first step of WordPress.

Hey Michael. I don't know CSS or XHTML. I guess this is obvious, but do I need to learn those? if so, how should I start - online guides, books, magazines, etc?

Yeah you're going to need to learn CSS/XHTML to work with WordPress. I'm sure you can use Tables with WordPress, but let's not even talk about tables.
Um...everything you need to learn about CSS/XHTML is going to be online. Though, if you do like to read off the computer, grab a book. You start off by heading over to the links below and that'll give you a good start. http://www.html.net/tutorials/css/introduction.asp http://www.w3schools.com/css/css_intro.asp http://www.html.net/tutorials/html/introduction.asp http://www.w3schools.com/xhtml/xhtml_intro.asp I hope those help. Take it one step at a time and just try and absorb as much as possible. And remember to take breaks. If you have any questions, feel free to message me on MSN or AIM.

Thanks Mike. Much appreciated.
After I learn CSS and XHTML, will putting it in WOrdpress "format" be another really time consuming process or is it pretty straightforward? I'll add you on MSN if I ever need anything - thanks for the offer. |

No problem Brian.
And well WordPress is a bit different than CSS and XHTML, but it's fairly the same thing. To develop with WordPress, you have to use PHP tags. But fear not, when I first went into WordPress coding, I knew nothing about PHP or the WordPress PHP Tags.
