Default Money and Clients

When you are selling your work, how do you require payment? On larger projects I usually require half up front and half after. There are so many untrustworthy people out there you have to be so careful.

Yeah that's usually how I do it.

I've gotten clients who won't pay half up front, even if it's a small amount. So I have no other choice but to drop them. It's really not worth the trouble and effort.

I always ask my clients for a 50% down payment but most of them just pay the full thing up front. I guess they trust me

Yeah a lot of designers when they start out forget to ask for a down payment. For small projects I ask for all the money upfront.

I think that is a secure way too as this make the thing sure that the client will not forefight the term before the projects ends, many of the persons dont talk about the down payment before and sometimes even lose the money as the client just back off.

I don't usually receive down payments. I would just give them sample designs on a jpg and then see if they like it or not.

That's a fine way to do that Herman - but sooner or later you will spend your time doing some design and the client will just walk away without paying you - there goes a few hours worth of solid work.

thats what I'm thinking too, Brian.

but in a way, its a less pressure for me, and can work at my own pace.

most of the works, my clients likes it the first time I show time. so i haven't had many clients running away with the payments.
