Default Help Needed

Hi, I am currently in the process of creating a image for a postcard in photoshop. I need to do a rising sun style graphic for the corner and am really struggling to get the angles of the rays exactly right. Is there an easy way to do it in photoshop that I am missing? I have been using the pollygon lasso to do it but as I said I cant get it right. I am sorry if this is not in the correct place.

The type of thing i am looking for is here:

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Andrew.

You can try looking for free sunburst brushes on Deviant Art. There are quite a few varieties there. This is the easy way out.

Otherwise, to make one yourself, try making an long rectangle, distort and duplicate, then rotate them in different angles to get the sun rays effect. Then add in your circle shape in the middle of the "rays". Tah-dah!

make vertical lines, quite thick, and then go to polar co-ordinates

Do it in illustrator. You can blur it up and do whatever in photoshop afterwards plus you'll have the shape as a smart object which is something small that people overlook. Here's a tutorial that helped jog my memory.

Or you could just go here and download a brush that does it for you.

I would suggest learning it in illustrator so you don't have to rely on a brush and plus you can just save it in awesome vector to use time and time again and alter how you wish.

I did this in like five minutes so it might take you a bit longer in order to get it exactly how you want it. I don't really know the history behind the rising sun so I don't know if there are any exact rules to the numbers of lines extruding from the circle. Hope it helps.

*Don't take this as an expression of my political views*

Another intersting thing I thought I'd relate to this is Obama's campaign symbol design. Political views apart I think it was a VERY SMART marketing campaign move to associal Obama with a symbol. The symbol is great and shouts AMERICA in a deeper sense than I've ever seen. Rolling hills, rising sun, and working the flag into it is just AWESOME.

Also, obama's banner is nothing but his symbol combined with the word "CHANGE" in all caps. I just think the association asthetically of his campaign is doing is incredible things for him.
