Default QXP or Indesign?

Hi, was wondering, I've been using Qxp for 10 yrs or so, and judging by some recent job ads i've seen Indesign is def getting more and more popular. Does anyone think its time to move over? With Qxp 7 being pretty good, it may get a come back? Basically is worth the effort, cost, time to train up on Indesign? Thanks J303

Well i personally use indesign but that's because I have the creative suite and I like the feel of the adobe software.

I'm not sure how different the two pieces of software are though I would imagine that experience in one would be god enough for an employer to give you a chance to learn the other

I think you'll enjoy the experience if you do. I must admit I have never used Quark but unless you are doing pure typesetting (ie books) then I'd say the streamlining of creative suite 3 is worth every penny. The way they work together is amazing, and even though I don't like big companies having this kind of monopoly, nobody is even close to Adobe so, go with the flow.

Indesign all the way. The experience is just smoother and while Quark has caught up (and even surpassed Indesign in some respects), the interface of Adobe products is just superior in my mind. Things just seem to flow better.
Personal preference of course.

usually i use inDesign for my magazine layout, this software is not difficult, easy to learning. Let alone for you because you have exp in QXP for 10 years. try learning something new is not bad

QXP is no longer being worked on due to the rise in use of InDesign, I guess that could tell you something, its sad to see another software being stopped on the design front though.

I would say InDesign is the industry standard nowadays.

Default Thanks for everyones input

Thanks for everyones input - I have just spent a few days on Indesign and with the QXP shortcuts activated, its pretty straight forward. Though what Indesign has over QXP is lost on me! Cheers

howdy! late to the party as usual. I worked with QXP for 16 yrs, and watched IDCS start to eat Quark's lunch. There are a lot of things about QXP I like and find missing in IDCS. QXP was designed by people who understood typesetting, and you got it WYSIWYG instead of the coding that was the industry standard prior. I find the little palettes in IDCS annoying, but hey! its all about AI & PS, and wouldn't want to upset anybody, now would we?

In the plus column, the pdf generated out of IDCS is the bomb. QXP had the crappiest pdf engine ever. I don't miss that at all.
