Default Grids

I'm just starting out with the InDesign program and I've been given an assignment to design a brochure. One of the requirements is that I learn how to use a grid for my layout. I'm not quite sure how to properly use a grid, so if anyone has any tips or examples they could show me of how to place text and images, that would be awesome!

Basically grids are used to format your text and images and keep it consistent throughout your entire design. The more detailed your assignment the more detailed your grid will be. its good to make your grid as flexible as possible.

There are some good books on amazon.com about grids i would search for them. Or just try using google and look up some design template sites to check out some brochure designs.
