Default Something i wonder all the time

I always wonder how people get a logo within a picture. What i mean is for example say i wanted to put this So Cal logo on this beach picture and i wanted to see the beack in the background Not the white area around the picture! What program can i get so i can be able to do this? i imagine Photoshop will work?

like this??

what you do is open PS, and load the logo and the pic. put the logo on top of the pic and set blanding mode to overlay, p.s. you can play around with blanding mode to see witch you think is the best..

or if you want the logo still to be black, then choose blending mode "Multiply"

If the logo wasn't black and white, then you would need to cut it out, by erasing (sp? :P) the background

Usually you would create a logo in Illustrator or another vector application and export it as an EPS or a PNG so that it keeps the transparency and then you can open it in Photoshop and put it on your picture. But yeah if the logo was supplied to you with a white background you'll have to use blending modes or cut it out manually. The latter is quite time consuming though.
