hello my name is Jeff Geck i am looking for a cool logo for a small T-shirt company. Anyone who comes up with a very cool main logo and t-shirt logo will be paid if my business gets off the ground!! I would like an iron cross incorperated into the design too.

A method I use when people ask me to freelance from abroad, I supply an image at 50% quality with a nice big old watermark, and also half the size, so they can approve, pay and then I deliver the goods. Works a charm.

Nobody should ever work for free.

What if they don't like it? What if they decide to not go through with it. Then you just wasted time. It is better to have a set agreement and half the money should be paid up front before the design is made. This ensures that both parties are satisfied. It is easier to track down a designer that has cheated you then a customer that has cheated you.

Thanks.

i've never had any problems with 25%, as when you are working with an agency, they usually get paid on completion of the project. So asking 50% can be a hard task for the agency to send before they invoice their client.

If you are designing for a company directly I suppose you could ask for 50%, making sure you are both comfortable though.
