The camera I have, Olympus E-510 is just as good or maybe even better than Nikon D40, and cheaper

I use this one...

For the price it's a great starter DSLR. I got it about a year ago and paid $1,000 total for the camera, a nice large canon camera bag, and x2 2GB memory cards + 1GB card. I've been pretty happy with it. The lens could be better. I plan to buy a new one as soon as I get some extra money.

Here's a sample image I shot with it yesterday in my parents yard.

So as you can see it shoots pretty decent quality for being relatively cheap. All I did to that photo was re-size it down from 3888x2592. (Sorry don't really have time to give a detailed review or I would, but when I was camera shopping it always helped to see pictures other people have taken to get a sense of the quality the camera produces).

A year later you an get it for half the price which makes it even more of a bang for the buck.

D200...I love it, I'm still learning about all its features and I had it for 2+ years.
