Default A Character Logo

I just finished (but am still open to suggestions) making a logo for a new project I am going to be working on with a friend and theme developer call themecannon we came up with an idea of a megaman inspired character as that will be our trademark/logo for the site. Please let me know what you think.

I also wrote a blog post about it if you care to read a little about my process.

Looks like you are using Wordpress logo? Wordpress.org.

So if you are using Megaman AND the Wordpress logo... What have YOU done here?

The wordpress logo is being used but it is not the primary reference in the logo, it will be among several different logo's used on the characters outfits. We are going to have him in different outfits displaying the themes we make for different platforms. Wordpress, Drupal...

As for the question what have I done here? I took a beloved character as a basis and drew a new character to suit our website. I illustrated the character and with megamans cannon arm in mind. Then drew what came to me. If you are implying that this logo is entirely plagaraised, I am am mildly offended as the concept was inspired by existing trademarks, but was created with my own pen.

I think he did the character from scratch in Illustrator, it's just inpired by Megaman. If you look at the real Megaman you can see it's quite different. The reason for the Wordpress logo is probably because they do themes for Wordpress as Creadiv also mentions in his blogpost?

I like it. The character is very well done!

EDIT: Creadiv's post wasn't there when I started writing this post so just ignore my comments

Looks like I misunderstood something here. I thought this basicly was a rip-off. The illustration is very good and the thought of placing Wordpress, drupal, etc-logos on his chest is quite good.

Hope you don't feel offended by my first post, but it sure looked like a rip-off to me. At second glance, it's clearly even an improvment.

Looks great, but as a logo be careful of copyright infringement. I think it looks to similar to the original stuff. I would maybe make the little guy look a bit different.. give him more of an original spin and maybe abstract the wordpress "w" more, possible used a sans-serif font insted of serifed, I'm not sure.

Also you have a nice deep red i think you need some deep or richer blue the blue looks a little washed out. I think that would make this logo really pop!!

Nice job!

Gino,

Thanks for the advice. I am definetly a little worried with using the platform specific logos on the character because I figure that might be copyright infringment, so I have plans to make some changes to them.

I appreciate everyones responses negative and positive, this concept isn't finished and I was looking for exactly this some people telling me to scrap it because it isn't original enough and some people telling me how to modify it to make it better.

You shouldn't scrap, because it's a good drawing, but as mentioned, you didn't have to mention that you took inspiration from megaman, and I think you should tone it down. Even though it's by your own hand. If I draw mickey mouse it's still mickey mouse, if you see my point. Also his stance look a bit generic, when I picture a... megaman-like character in my head it should go

SWOOOOOOOSH
BAAAAAAAAANG
YAAAAOOOZAAAA

not "yeah motherfucker, I'm laaaidback chu' know what'a mean?"
I like the way you draw and color though! Keep it up

Agree with alyCe, the chick here. I would say Sonic and Megaman shares the same toughness. The both looks a bit angry, but are still on the good side. Try to catch that.

Speed is also an important part of both this cartoon figures. The drawing looks very static. It need to be more alive.

Sorry for the all Cartoon thing. I'm really not into them at all, but I remember watching Sonic as a kid. Speed and toughness is the key here.
