Very good start. I think there are too many different fonts used though. If you had more consistent typography throughout the site it would be much nicer.

Okey, read the whole post before you get outraged :P
I got a bit disapointed at this, but that's because I saw your first post first, which was quirky, naïve, spontanous, energic and colorful. Why not put some of that spontanous energy into the webdesign too? This looks like a thousand websites I've seen before, and it looks too "nice". From a "designer"-point of view I could point out lots of mistakes in both designs, but that comes in second. Always. I think this website-design is way to 'nice'. I could post about the typographic work that needs to be done or nitpicking details that doesn't add up. But I don't think that's really important. Is this site really representant of you?

A good start but as the others have stated needs a lot of work. Maybe put in some fake text to distinguish the different elements if you know what i mean. Be sure to post another version when you get around to it.
thanks for sharing and keep up the good work! ~chris |

Alright, here it goes.
First, the actual quality of your work, not whether it's new and original but the actual image quality of things. Using some Photoshop brushes is fine for a lot of things but make sure there of high resolution and don't look blurry, also they didn't look like they were big enough and some got cut off at the top. Second, to many fonts. Great typography is not how 'out there' you can get with the fonts, it's the flow and magic that happens when everything just 'fits'. Try using less 'out there' fonts and stick to ones that are more multi purpose yet still pleasing to the eye. Proper placement and readability are key to web design typography. Third, is that all? People usually like websites that appear to offer more or have spaces that look like they're going to be filled with great new content soon. The design you have setup right now, to me, implies that your just some information portal and nothing special happens there. Try to make it look inviting as well as interesting. And last, think about it, if this will be an XHTML & CSS based website, will you be able to efficiently code it? If it's intended to be a flash site, i can understand. I'd suggest something that would be easy to update too, like a blog or CMS system (sNews rox my s0x) I hope you got something out of my rant, if not, at least i got just that little bit better at typing. - Chris |
