Default Music Festival Poster

Hey

Just thought I'd start showcasing some of my work now that I have some online.

This piece is a poster for a music festival called H20. It was my first unit in my graphics course which I did just over a year ago.

Basically the idea behind the design was to use a grunge style using textures and dark colours to create an 'indie' feel about it, because the style of music at the festival would be indie.

Any feedback would be great thanks

Looks great, my only suggestion would be to create more hierarchy with the text. Posters basically have three views.

1. Far Away - So you need some large type to draw the person in, I think you can get your title a little bigger.

2. Mid Distance - This can be your subheading or some important details for the event.

3. Close Up - This would be your smallest text usually around the bottom of the poster for details that aren't so important.

What's up with the ratings? Would like to see some reasons for the ratings, no one is getting better at designing by numbers :P

I like the expression this gives, my only concern is that nothing connects with anything else. the guy with the guitar only partially interacts with the wall, the wall only fills the poster partially, and with the frame it looks unrealistic. The text doesn't interact with the white labels they should be on, they ignore them and fight with them. The mix between caps and no-caps are frustrating and makes the text less readable (which means death for a musical poster). Also, listen to what Gino said about hierarchy.

(I'm gonna be known on this forum as the cranky and negative one ain't I? :P)

Lastly, I think you missed the indie-feel. This feels more punk because it's so gritty, and because of your colour-scheme. Try introducing a colour or two, maybe?

That's the kind of response I love to see I'll take these things into consideration when I make modifications. I've changed my design style a lot since then. I had a tendency to just design and not consider the reasoning behind the design or how it will work with the reader.

Yeh haha, numbers don't help me out with the design. I'd like to know how I could go from 7 to a 9 or 10.

Thanks for your input as well Gino. There is quite a lot I need to consider with this design.

Well my designs would always be a 10. And most other people would be 7-8. So if you just do things as skillfully as me you'll get better by numbers. I rate your comment 3/10
