Hey

This was my exam piece for my graphics course last year. The question was to create a desktop background based around the theme of flies.

I used lots of textures of paint, bricks and rough surfaces to create a very dark, rough feel and modified the skin colour of the girl in the photo to create the impression the skin is rotting.

What I like most is the eye. I changed the eye colour so that it created a strong focal point in the design. I also turned the eye into a fly by giving it arms and wings and such.

Any feedback is greatly appreciated

This is very cool and very creepy! Nice job, I'm not sure what size you created it in but sometimes designers forget to make a bunch of different sizes and large monitors are becoming very common. 20inch+ windscreen monitors are very common now with resolutions with widths of over 1650 pixels wide so just remember to start your design big if its not all vector!

Well due to the way we work at college, we make all designs A3 at 150 DPI for presentation purposes in the files. I'm sure that would be adequate enough for the larger monitors

Thanks for the comment

this is cool. but you should have put som drop shadow, or some shadow one the flies, so the it looks more like they are on the face-

I usually hate "eye compositions" as they are so overused and just a bit tacky in my opinion. It works here though and I like what you did to the eye itself.

I like the texturing and the feel to the piece. But I think the flies need to be blended in better. They look very "flat". Great work overall though..

I like the piece, but I'd actually rethink all the flies. The concept with the legs and wings on the eye is brilliant, but is completely lost because the focus is on the actual flies. Also, the flies, are they a brush or something? At closer inspection I saw that the three largest flies where actually the same. It doesn't matter with the smaller ones but it's quite easy to spot with the big and detailed ones. I do understand the concept of the flies and how they encircle the eye, leading the viewers eye but if you decide to have flies there, it should look like real flies that are standing on the skin. Personally I'd remove them and make the eye=fly (flye?) more prominent, because thats a more solid idea.

My two cents anyway
