Cool concert poster

this poster is for hips-R&B-funkster Jamie Lidell. Hopefully you've heard his music for two reasons: it helps put the poster into context as he's very flashy and funky, and it's good tunes!
I was definitely going for a trendy, hip, LOUD, and bright feel. I'm quite happy with the lime background, and the "Jamie splat". The orientation of his name derived from his website/album cover.

please enjoy!

I find concert posters sadly go unnoticed. I like the look of it grabs you in and says HEY!!!! Look at me!!!

I'm still not feeling the text. Maybe if you made it look like it had some more perspective, like poping out of the page...or 'bloating' if you know what I mean.

There seems to be a lot going on in the middle of the page. Effects are kind of like fonts. If you start to use too many of them it turns into a circus poster. It's just difficult to see where the focus is supposed to be. You have a mixture of paint splatter, desaturation, trendy vector, and silk screen all on the same peace.

I would cut it down and see if you could make it a bit simpler. How big can you get that photo of him jumping? I think the most interesting part about that photo is his mouth screaming to the mic with those glasses. I would blow that up big and fill the whole poster.

Those are my comments and I hope they help inspire a few more versions. I don't know the artist but if I listened to his music I would probably get a better feel for his design.

I think it looks good, but the theater logo and the date are way to big they should be much smaller especially the logo.

ok, very good notes... shit, this should belong in criticism by now.
shrunk the logo.
the halftone/silkscreen effect arose from a previous version where the jazz going on behind him was of the same effect. that needs to change.
my co-worker noticed the artist's name is popping out in the wrong direction from the rest of the poster. that needs to change too. I'm okay with desaturation / trendy vector / paint splatter. desaturation doesn't feel like an overbearing effect anyway to me.

i appreciate your notes! back to work...

alrighty...
i'm gonna stick with this font for now.

i think getting rid of the halftone behind the date/artist name does a lot, and makes the center exploding splat effects seem less over the top and circus-y. I kept the date rather large, because the fact that the show's on a Saturday is important, especially in this town...

i switched the perspective of the artist's name, and added a slight gradient to hopefully achieve the effect of the text coming out at you.
