Yeah it took me a while to start using Illustrator more then Photoshop. At first I didn't like Illustrator, but now I like it more then Photoshop even though they server different purposes.

Thumbs up

Oh guys I wasn't trying to start a mess here, it's just that I've tried the pen and paper stuff and it didn't work out to well and that made my motivation go away and none of my friends liked the final outcome, so I never tried that again. Illustrator is not my best friend that's all.

I wasn't trying to say he was less of a designer for his reply, I was merely stating the fact that I can guess what type of designer he is based on his comment. IE. "Do you have any idea how long that would take" as if I had no idea how long something simple like that would take and as if it's a really hard job to do and requires massive amounts of effort. IMO it just comes off a little cocky, but again he could have not meant it like that at all.
I wasn't saying that with something bad in mind, it just takes a lot of time for me, I'm not good with illustrator. The pen tool from Il is different from the one from PS so it's a bit confusing, confusion costs time and contest are for applying skills not learning them.

I agree and disagree, but then again I'm not a contest-kind of person :P It all depends on what you as a designer want from the contest. If I wanted to join a contest it would be out of three reasons:
1)Prize (then I would do my utter best at it)
2)Experience and self-development (where I would also do my best)
3)Experimentation and fun
I've done it for 3. I never draw a coffee coup ever .

Thanks for all the replays!

Sry infektsu for replaying that way, but I work the amount of time that I like to work. I didn't say that pen and paper stuff couldn't have been a good idea.

Yeah and did I say anything about doing all that, ha. It would probably take about 30 mins to an hour to sketch, scan, and re-create a simple logo such as a coffee cup in illustrator. You must be more experience than me, that doesn't change the fact that I can't do it in less than 1 hour. And to do that for a contest? Well, no thanks, there were 20 more contest opened, plenty of competition.

that in itself is funny, and a "Generation" statement, all in one.

Nice tutorial however!

I'm glad you liked it

Any suggestions for improving my style? I'm opened to suggestions right now. I feel more flexible that the other days.

I'm gonna be brutal with you then, either you make it your friend, or you should concidering doing else than logos (which of course isn't necissarily a bad thing). One thing is making a logo in photoshop for a contest, but you could never give that logo away to a company. And you know, there's that thing about form and function

I respectfully disagree, the best way of learning design is, designing. When designing for a real client you will have more restrictions than in a contest, so why not challenge yourself? Do something you've never done before. If it doesn't work then it doesn't, and you will probably come out of it a better designer.
