Default Greetings from another Aussie

Hey everyone,

Just wanted to say a quick hello since I just joined the forum!
I am a female Australian very interested in beginning my studies as a graphics designer and thought I'd join here to see what other people had to say about the career.
I have always loved designing things from as long as I can remember from magazine layouts to banners to cd covers.
So if anyone could tell me a bit about the career itself or their experiences while doing it, that would be a great help!
Cheers!

Welcome to the forums! This is a good place to ask questions.

The first thing you will want to do is to get the adobe design premium sweet so you can master the adobe program, Photoshop, Illustrator and In Design then its just a lot of practice!

Money is good and a a lot of designers freelance full time from home and make good money. Start building up a portfolio of work so you can put a website up as soon as possible!

freelancing is a good way to go. read as much as you can and look at as much design as possible. look at design from all over the place. study typography. so on and so on.

Thanks for the advice Gino and the gorbott.
Wow I didn't know that you could work as a freelance designer from home, that seems like such a great option. The job is very flexible which is fantastic.
I will definitely get myself that Adobe software so I can start designing!
Also, I have read in various places that you need a diploma before you can start designing professionally, is this true? I mean I know studying would enhance my capabilities, but is it absolutely necessary?

Thats not true really, You may have a hard time finding a full time job though without a diploma because people want u to have gone to school, but you can freelance on your own without having to go to school, but I would go to school for design if you can. Start practicing and freelancing now.

Ahh I see. Thanks for all the advice guys, I have a much more clear understanding of the career now having read the posts in this forum.
I found most of the other graphic design forums to be too crowded and confusing but this one is tidy and informative.
Keep up the good work!
