Default I Am Legend

Anyone see this new Will Smith movie yet? I thought it was frekin awesome. I've haven't jumped in a movie in a long time, but this one did a really good job at building up suspense and freaking you out. I also found it very hard to predict the movie which I like and I thought there were a lot of small details in the movie that make it worth a second or third viewing.

Def gonna get it on DVD =)

This movie made me jump a few times as well. Especially The first time you see the "zombies"..jesus! Hehe. I do think the concept of it is a bit too similar to that of "28 days later" though, which I found a lot more believable and scary.

I personally thought there would be more story to it.

For example, when he captured the female monster and the male monster briefly tries to rescue it before getting burnt by the sunlight this was the first time you are introduced to the main male monster character who is head of the pack (iirc). The next scene was when Robert Neville documents that they now show no human instinct, I thought the story would go on to disprove his theory considering the previous rescue attempt.

With the movie focussing on this monster character I thought the monsters were working on a plan to rescue the female - especially when they showed the initiative to setup an identical trap to Robert Neville.
This continued all the way up to them storming the house and trying to get into the lab, but as you can imagine the ending was a little different to what I was expecting haha.

In that case there wasn't really any point at all in having the main monster character, the story would have been exactly the same without him.

I was probably just reading into it a little too much, all in all it was Ok, I wouldn't go and see it again thought.

I absolutely loved the movie, right until the ending. Don't know why, but it seemed like a cop-out.

I hadn't thought that the infected set the trap that Neville got caught in . . . I thought it was his own trap that he stumbled into when he was freaking out on that dummy. Not a bad interpretation, though . . .

Regarding Smith's acting, I thought it was superb in this film. A lot of times he's in more glossy, action-oriented flicks that don't get to show off his acting chops, but I've always been impressed when he's in something that's more about his character (Pursuit of Happyness, for example).

There were some similarities to 28 Days Later (another great flick), but nothing over-the-top. There are only so many ways you can depict an empty post-pandemic world, I guess. And since this was a re-make (Omega Man), you can't really say they stole the concept or anything from 28. Having Smith be a highly-trained military ass-kicker with a wicked arsenal and technical know-how was a noted improvement over how 28 Days Later approached the premise. Although in 28 WEEKS Later, having the military presence wasn't all that cool (I despise that sequel). I think it was the fact that this was one guy, meticulous in his behavior, prepared for anything that made him seem so damn cool.

I agree about the "main monster" character being unnecessary. And it bugged me that there was any semblance of a social structure (after saying that they no longer exhibited human behavior). And keeping attack dogs? What do they call that? In the "mindless rage" sense, I think 28 Days Later had it right with their infected.

Anyway, I'll stop ranting. It really is a good movie, and I'd suggest seeing it. I might even see it again just to spot some of the details from spoon's post (good observations).

There were some good parts to the movie, and it definately made me jump a few times. Like when he goes into that dark building running after his dog...I wish more of the movie were like that. But the ending totally ruined it for me. I had higher hopes, stupid previews....damn you!
