Hi there - I've been working in financial services (stocks and bonds) as an assistant for over 20 years (I'm 37 - started young). In every position I've worked in I've been in charge of the design of all marketing material, presentations to new and existing clients, and any other stuff that required Powerpoint, Publisher, Adobe, etc. I'm very tired of working as an assistant in finance - is it possible I could jump to the Graphic Design business? I have Photoshop at home and love it - and I'm an artist at heart - am majoring in Visual Fine Arts at local community college (I know - laughable). I have a sense that my experience will not be enough - judging by the job descriptions out there. But, I love it and am willing to learn whatever I need to. What do you think?

it is possible. ask your boss about it. if you are working long time and he trust you enough then i see no problem in the situation. ask him to give you chance to prove yourself. everyone deserves a chance isnt it?

You can no doubt switch to the career of your choice but in starting you would face some difficulties as designing is an entirely new field to you. It would be better if you pursue online degree in designing besides your job and when you become good at it, you can start your career with this. Have a look at this to start your online degree http://shrinkify.com/1dhj

im definitely not the guy to ask about this. but ill voice my opinion anyway.
you seem to be dedicated. #1 step. you seem to have a passion for this. and you are trying your best to learn everything you need to know in order to succeed in this field. and if you are actually a natural born artist at heart, then im sure you have the other main ingredient. skill. im sure you will be fine and if you have a decent relationship with you colleagues then you should successfully be given a chance to prove yourself. good luck. hope everything works out for you
