What an Interesting thread you got here. As freelancer, I also highly recommend what BrainDance said that you should not quit your paying job as much as possible. There is a big competition going on out there. It even took me a year before I was hired for my first assignment. It took awhile before I achieved good employer feedbacks to enhance my profile.
